We have reproduced here, the autobiography he wrote himself at the beginning of his journey to the priesthood.

I am Sylvester Nwannedima Ogbogu, I was born twenty-two (22) years ago in Umuochie Umueze Ibusa in Oshimili Local government area of Delta State, to the family of Mr & Mrs J. A. Ogbogu. We are nine (9) in the family, five (5) girls and four (4) boys, in which I am the third and first son. My two older sisters are married.

At the age of eight, I left my parents to stay with my Aunty in Lagos. After some few months of arrival in Lagos, I was enrolled in the nursery school where my Aunty is one of the teachers. After one year in the nursery school, I was admitted into Lagos Mainland Local Government Primary School, Ebute-Metta. I had to take the G2 examination in primary six and I was promoted to junior secondary school (JSS 1) in Iponri Grammar School in September 1985. I finally finished my secondary education in 1991. But I had to retake in 1992.

I was baptised in 1986 and I also had my first Holy Communion and Confirmation. The same year, I had this desire to work for God I thought of how I could be useful to my God. I decided to join the Altar boys Association in April 1986, where I developed the interest in serving mass and working in the church. I was also a member of the Board of Lectors.

However, my frequent attendance at Mass was so much challenged by my Aunty and her children. They complained a lot about my going to morning and evening Mass but their complaints could not deter me from serving my God because I believe it is only God that has solutions to our problems. Moreso, we all have our times of tribulations but with God on our side, we shall prevail.

Moreover, I had a lot of challenges to contend with, at home and at school. Because I was made a school prefect and this lasted for three years (1989-1991). The challenges I had at home were not easy too because they complain so much about my going to church too often.

Despite all these challenges I never wanted to give up because I believe in God and I know everything belongs to him, he knows the beginning and the end. And he listens to those who pray to him in difficulties. When I failed my English in 1991 I knew it was time for me to make the decision of what I am going to be.

It is my utmost desire to become a priest because of the interest I have in working for God and humanity and also to do his will. It is my interest to bring God nearer to the people and the people nearer to God. I want to carry the message of Christ to those places where the word has not been heard.

However, I thought of how I can go about achieving this aim with my timidity and nervousness, but I believe if God is really calling me he will give me the courage and strength. I also hope that the seminary will help me overcome these I want to remain faithful to my god throughout my life. It is my utmost desire to work for God.

My hobbies are playing football, reading religious books, newspapers, visiting people, attending masses daily and travelling.
